Seghesio Family Vineyards

Premier Winery Experience participant and Passport to Zinfandel participant

Immigration, survival, determination, re-invention. Going to legendary Seghesio Family Vineyards in Healdsburg is to connect back in time to the hard-working origins of California wine and to view the entire colorful history of Sonoma County and California wine through a modern lens. And visiting today is also to lock into and savor some of the most consistently highly-rated Zinfandels in the business.

From the Old World to the Old West, to phylloxera, to Prohibition, to modern times, the Seghesio family lived through it all.

The family’s wine business evolved from being a modest home-grown operation founded by Edoardo and Angela Seghesio at the turn of the 19th Century, to being the largest producer of bulk wine and grapes in Sonoma County, then ultimately scaled down to the small production/high quality specialist that it is renowned as today. Seghesio was one of the few wineries in California to survive the devastation of Prohibition, mainly by shipping grapes out of state by railroad to home-winemakers where wine was still legal for home use only. The winery’s line of wines are sourced from nearly 300 acres of estate vineyards, a big chunk of which are old vines planted in the days of Edoardo and Angela. Tastings and tours are hosted at the original winery near downtown Healdsburg, and you can even arrange for group events and play old school style games of bocce ball.
