Buena Vista Winery

Only in California would the state’s first premium winery be founded by a Hungarian Count and branded with a Spanish name, using grapevines sourced from across Europe. Progressive, international, diverse, visionary…makes perfect sense!

And, the entrepreneurial spirit is very much alive and well at Buena Vista, where French winery scion and California wine promoter Jean Charles Boisset has injected new vitality, vineyard quality, and a deep appreciation for the history and world-class status of California wine. The original trail-blazing founder of Buena Vista, Count Agoston Haraszthy, would be quite pleased with his beloved winery’s progress!

Regarded as California’s first commercial premium winery and established in 1857, the original landmark property and renovated stone buildings sequestered in the hills near the town of Sonoma is a colorful showplace for the history of California wine and Buena Vista’s diverse repertoire of wines – including the “Vinicultural Society” selection of expressive, site-driven Zinfandels and blends.

Take the short stroll through the park-like setting back into history and enjoy a tasting either in the restored old press house, seated on the patio, or privately in the cellar. Tastings from barrel, picnics, and lunches are also offered on a daily basis by reservation.
