The El Dorado 8 is a 501 (c)(6) non-profit organization comprised of 9 wineries that share a common goal of promoting the unique and compelling character of wines from El Dorado. This quality driven group of winemakers/growers in the El Dorado AVA have embarked on an effort to define the influence and  character that this distinct, high-elevation and Alpine AVA presents in their wines. The El Dorado Eight is marketing the El Dorado AVA’s distinctions to the broader wine industry to establish our importance in the context of all of California’s wine.

Through an iterative process of tasting and discussion, the collective of growers and winemakers found that El Dorado is better defined stylistically than by a signature variety. The group now refers to its high elevation mountain terroir, and the unique sensory expectations found in their wine resulting from of their Alpine location with the term “Sierra Highlands.”
