What happens when you put two U.C. Davis wine grads and veteran winemakers together on prime land in the Santa Cruz Mountains near the Pacific coast? Storrs Winery and Vineyards is what happens! The two Burgundian-trained winemakers who have spent their careers building their own estate winery not only make exemplary Pinot noir and Chardonnay but also specialize in sourcing Zinfandel from old vineyards in the San Lucas AVA near Monterey Bay and Santa Clara County – once a thriving region of vineyards and orchards – before its transition to silicon chips.
Pamela and Steven Storrs made wines for several wineries before being able to purchase 60 acres of their own in 2001 and realizing their dream of planting their own organic vineyard and building their own eco-friendly winery. Along the way they sourced Zinfandel from old hidden vineyards that are relics of another era in Santa Clara and San Lucas.
The Storrs finally premiered their dream winery in a defunct quarry on their ranch in Corralitos in 2018. Make a reservation here for a seated tasting of Storrs wines in the winery courtyard. Another Storrs tasting option is to make a reservation at the Storrs tasting venue in Santa Cruz at the old Sash Mill on Potrero St. Look for Storrs’ Rusty Ridge Zinfandel from Santa Clara County – a prime reminder of the region’s great wines of another era.
