Ignite your desire for learning at this seated seminar tasting. You will taste a total of 12 wines from three iconic California Zinfandel growing regions, presented by our rotating cast of acclaimed winemakers in an interview style format. We’ll take you on a revealing ride of discovery, delving into the history and science behind the flavors of Zinfandel. To add an element of “intrigue,” the wines will be tasted blind—even the panelists won’t know which of the wines is theirs! The big reveal will come at the end of each flight. You’ll also learn ways to explore the Zinfandel Trail for your next visit to California wine country. Flights provides unique insight into the Zinfandel varietal and allows you to experience the true character of the wines through the eyes of experts.

Wine critic Esther Mobley joined The Chronicle in 2015 to cover California wine, beer and spirits. Previously she was an assistant editor at Wine Spectator magazine in New York, and has worked harvests at wineries in Napa Valley and Argentina. She studied English literature at Smith College.
Joel Peterson was the Winemaker of Ravenswood and is a founding member of ZAP, having served as two-time President. Joel unwittingly embarked on his winemaking apprenticeship at the age of ten when he began tasting with the San Francisco Wine Sampling Club, organized and operated by his father. Once and Future Wine Company is a return to the original vision he had for Ravenswood so many years ago. It’s a project that specializes in wines from special vineyards made with a sensitivity to place and in a style that he personally loves. ZAP is fortunate to have had Joel moderate the Flights event since 2010.
